North of Fort William you come out of the Ben Nevis range and can look back upon Ben Nevis itself. At least, you can if it isn’t cloudy…but this is Scotland…in March…
Ben Nevis was used as a training ground by Royal Marine Commandos in the Second World War, which explains this monument:
As we got further north, the weather started to clear:
Just as we were driving through the valley of Glenshiel, we rounded a corner an two deer were in the middle of the road; the ran out of the way, but suddenly a stag came careering out. It stopped just in time and reared up literally 2 meters from the car. I stopped to get some photos, which was not easy because deer seem to be hardwired into fearing people, and so run away immediately. All week i barely got a good shot of any, and I saw a fair few.
