After the walk I decided to drive around Glenshiel on my own for a bit. I was luck enough to see three stags having an evening feed, just be the side of the road. I pulled over, and was literally two meters from a really big one. Whilst they run as soon as they see or smell people, they don’t care about cars. I slowly wound down the window, hopingĀ I was downwind. The stag didn’t move. I reached over the glove box to get my camera for the perfect shot…and remembered the camera was in the boot. Shit. I got out to get it, but of course the stags bolted. I still got some reasonable shots, but that was the closest i came to getting a proper close-up, shame…

Of course, there are downsides to deer not being hard-wired to fear cars as well as people:

North West Scotland is fairly remote, and you really get a feel for it as evening draws in and you’re on your own…

Before returning to the cottage i stopped to watch the sun set over Lochalsh:
